In the A thousand splendid suns, it showed us the Afghanistan life in the dark, Especial the women. It also showed us how splendid they life even though live in the violent family. It doesn’t have a person can depend on. It doesn’t have something can make them laugh. In the A thousand splendid suns, there is a girl who name Laila. Her parents just died. Fortunately, she was serviced. But fate always liked to be miserable. She was serviced by Rasheed a man who always hurt his wife. At the beginning, Laila feel bad about lose her parents. But wave did not stop another. The worst new was passed to her. Her boyfriend was death. At the same time, Laila knew her already pregnant. In that situation, she has no choice. She doesn’t have a person can depend on. She was helpless. Under that condition, she was agreeing to marry Rasheed. Laila bear a lot of pain live with Rasheed. She always wants to leave, but suffered many things encumber. She was still stay at Rasheed’s house and born a baby for him. Laila was very poor. Who knows there is a big secret between Rasheed and Laila? Rasheed was cheating on Laila. At the end of the story, Tariq showed up. He was still alive. He didn’t die. This big secret makes Laila suffer a lot of bad thing. The big secret changes her life.
“Get away, you!” Zalmai cried. “Hush,” Mariam said. ”Who are you yelling at?” He pointed. “There. That man.” Laila followed his finger. There was a man at the front door of the house, learning against it. His head turned when he saw them approaching. He uncrossed his arms. Limped a few steps toward them. Laila stopped. At here the author uses Zalmai to lead the reader into the secret. Zalmai has the good relationship with Rasheed. When Zalmai saw Tariq, he not has a good feeling. He cried. He also said; “Get away, you!” At that moment is the right moment to reveal the secret. The author makes the reader to feel the Zalmai has known it would change the fate at that person. His reaction illuminates he has the revolt against Tariq. At the time, Mariam was present. The author also make Mariam is the important character. She can do many things for Laila. That’s the right moment to reveal the secret because Mariam was present. If Mariam not there that make the reveal secret can not make sense. Laila can not go away with Tariq. But Mariam was there. She killed Rasheed and make Laila go out with Tariq.
“You duped me. You lied to me,” Laila said, gritting her teeth. “You had that man sit across from me and…You knew I would leave if I thought he was alive,” At here Laila knows the secret and she showed us how was her felling. She said:” You duped me. You lied to me,” Duped means lied. The author emphasizes Laila was agitated at that time. The author also emphasizes the secret was divulging affect the character. Laila gritting her teeth showed she was nerves. She also showed us that about how important the secret it is. At that moment, Laila said:” You knew I would leave if I thought he was alive.” The author through the words of Laila to the reader thought about her life. And the author makes the reader to think about her life if Laila knows the secret earlier.
“AND YOU DIDN’T LIE TO ME?” Rasheed roared. “You think I didn’t figure it out？About your harami? You take me for a fool, you whore?” At here the author showed us about Rasheed keeps the secret that nobody knows. Even though Laila ever escaped, Rasheed still keeps the secret. At this time, this is the right moment that the author to reveal the secret, because before the sentence everybody would think about how bad Rasheed was, and how good Laila was. But after Rasheed reveals the secret, it affects the plot. On this moment, Rasheed reveals the secret not only make all fault to the Laila there, but also he got an advantage. He roared and he said the bad words to make his secret were more important. The author makes the secret keep it all the time. When Rasheed’s secret was known, at the same time, it reveals her secret. At that time to reveal that’s contributes to he blame Laila and hit Laila later on. This secret also let Mariam make a decision to kill Rasheed. Mariam knew Rasheed is a person who is by hook or crook.
There are many secrets in this book. The author uses the character to reveal or keep the secret affects the plot and contributes to the meaning of the work as a whole. But when these secret was reveal. It used to have a sad result. Mariam also has a secret with Jalil. It was talking about Jalil leaves money for Mariam. But Mariam didn’t read the letter. At the end, Laila read the letter and knows Jalil wants to get along well with Mariam. But at that time, Mariam has died. The author makes many secrets in the book. The character keeps the secret was bad for the other character. But when the secret was reveal, it would make it worse than before. The author is through this way to make the reader think about the fate of the Afghanistan women.
